Real Talk With a Utiva Graduate: Solomon Idowu

By Isoemi Samuel

1.Can we meet you?

My name is Solomon Olaotan  Idowu. I currently work as a Data Performance Analyst in RunHomes Ltd. We runs a social care services with a lot of care homes in south east London.

I manage data pipelines and dashboards that measure vital healthcare metrics. I am the go-to person for reports that team leaders, managers, and senior management rely on to do their work. I educate the technical and non-technical staff on digital matters and resolve issues around them.

2. What inspired you to join our Data Science tech program?

When I finished my master's program, where I relied heavily on the Internet and YouTube videos for learning, I realized I didn’t understand the theory and practice of many programming languages such as Python and SQL. Of course, I understood the modules, but nothing outside that.

3. Can you share a memorable moment or funny story from your time in the program?

I think the people in my cohort make the class a memorable one.
One guy like that who asks a lot of questions. We all look forward to his questions. We gained from them, but he asked a lot of funny questions. Also, I met amazing tutors who impacted invaluable knowledge of programming on me.

4. What was the most challenging part of the course, and how did you overcome it?

I would say Time. I live in the UK now, and here almost all affairs are timed. It was a challenge to squeeze out time for classes and study. Well, I overcame that unwavering determination and focus.

5.What was your favorite project or assignment, and why?

It was the data analysis projects we did in Excel. Before enrolling in Utiva, I hadn’t done any data analysis project in Excel. I was intrigued to learn about PowerPivot, pivot charts, dashboard in Excel and many more…

6.Do you have any tips or advice for current students or those considering the program?

Forget about all the noise/side talk; be focused.

Look for like minds and form collaboration

Try your best not to miss classes, and if you do catch up, by all means.

Build rapport with your tutors.

7.What’s next for you? Any exciting projects or goals?

Landing my dream job. There so much money in tech to go round …laugh

8.How can our readers connect with you?

This is an area I’m working on; I rarely post on social media.
