My name is Môm Chai I’m a legal and compliance analyst at Afrinvest (West Africa) Limited.

2. How did you first hear about Utiva and What motivated you to enroll in the Product Management  BootCamp?

I’ve known about Utiva for quite some time, although I’m not exactly sure how I first came across it. I have always been keen on learning Product Management. Despite my Legal background, I’ve had a strong interest in technology and have dabbled in a few tech-related projects. One day, I stumbled upon an advertisement for the Product Management BootCamp on LinkedIn and decided to try it. I signed up, paid the fee, and began the program.

3. How did your experience at Utiva Product Management School prepare you for your role or how did it add to your career growth?

Well, the school has significantly contributed to my career growth. In my previous role, I worked for a company that frequently launched new products. I closely collaborated with the IT and marketing departments, often reviewing product documents and agreements. I realized that taking a course in Product Management would better equip me to provide sound advice, and it certainly did.
 

During the program, my colleagues noticed the positive impact and increased engagement. I was better positioned to collaborate with all stakeholders effectively. The BootCamp enhanced my career and provided me with the skills needed to build my own product, which I will be launching soon.

5. What specific skills or knowledge did you gain from the Product Management BootCamp that you found most valuable?

To be honest, I learned so much from the program that it's hard to quantify. Product Management itself is a skill, and through the BootCamp, I developed a solid foundation in this field. The knowledge and techniques I acquired have been invaluable.
 

6. What are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced in your product management career, and how did you overcome them?

I would say relating with developers can be challenging, as some of them can be quite strong-headed. To manage and work effectively with them, I focused on making them see that they are integral parts of the project and the team. I emphasized that the success or failure of the product is a collective responsibility, and we are all in it together.
 

Coming from a legal background, I also have some dispute-resolution techniques that I apply. I try to communicate in a way that aligns with their concerns and interests. This approach has helped me build better collaboration and understanding within the team.
 

7. What advice would you give to someone considering going into Product Management?
 

My advice is to genuinely invest your time in doing the courses and assignments. It shouldn't be about just ticking off boxes. Approach the class with the mindset of wanting to gain knowledge and skills, not just to obtain a certificate. Doing this will ensure you get the most out of the program.
