Real Talk With a Utiva Graduate: Efe Daniel
By Nathanie Ike
Let’s meet you (Your Name, What You do, where you currently work)
My name is Efe Daniel Ogbodu. I am a Business ‘Growth’ / Content Strategist. I help businesses grow using Tech, Financial Management, and Growth Strategies.
I currently work at FutureSphere BI Hub as a UX Writer/ Content Writer & Social Media Marketer
Can you share your journey from attending Utiva Data School to your current role as a UX Writer and Content Writer at FutureSphere BI Hub, highlighting key experiences or insights gained along the way?
I joined Utiva Data School Cohort 4 in October 2023.
When I joined the program, I was already working in my UX Writer/ Content Writer Role but I had little knowledge of how to apply the data I was getting from the product team for the brands we were managing.
Before I joined, I had always been curious about the data in my organization and the factors that led to the results the brands my company was working with were getting either on their app or social media.
I also stumbled across some videos on YouTube talking about Data Analytics as a profession which triggered my interest so I decided to give it a shot.
For the first sets of live classes on Excel and SQL, it was easy for me to follow because the tools used were very similar to what my colleagues already used at work.
I noticed that when it was time to give weekly reports on Social Media performance, App performance, or website performance, I could explain in detail why we had those figures and make suggestions for improvement.
This not only increased my interest in these weekly meetings, but it also piqued the interest of my colleagues in me.
How did your time at Utiva Data School prepare you for a career in data analytics, and what specific skills or knowledge from the program do you find most valuable in your current role as a UX Writer and Content Writer?
My experience at Utiva Data School certainly prepared me through case studies, data sets, and step-by-step guides to source, clean data, and carry out research if I wanted to do a project.
It is these steps I would later employ when implementing my Excel and SQL Assignments.
Visualization, Critical / Analytical Thinking, Presentation skills, Pivot Tables, Querying data, Research, Product Management, and insight-driven design or updates are some of the few valuable skills I was able to garner which have proved valuable till now in my current role.
Can you discuss the importance of data-driven insights in your work as a UX Writer and Content Writer at FutureSphere BI Hub, and how you use data to inform your content creation and user experience decisions?
Content is king, and more so the audience that consumes the content is the ‘King Makers’.
User Experience can be the difference between whether someone ‘ a user’ will tell his or her friend, or the next person about that app or website if they will log in again or not, or between ‘churn’ and ‘low retention’.
For the reasons above, data-driven insights are critical for my work as a UX and Content Writer, it is the insights gotten from user interaction with both the content and different elements of the product or app that I submit to my team or bosses and which we use to choose what feature or content is performing better, what our audience wants and what feature, upgrade to work on.
With data such as point of login, point of purchase, engagement level, time spent on website/ app, screens/pages visited, category of users and user id, and id sessions we can establish relationships between results and data and draw insights that inform us or provide clarity on what we should work on, what is working and what we should scrap, this saves us development cost, reduces trial and error, guesswork and helps us work with more clarity or a better-defined goal in mind.
As a UX Writer, how do you ensure that your content effectively communicates the brand voice, tone, and messaging while also addressing user needs and preferences?
I carry out research with my target audience through forms, case studies, and interviews to identify their needs and their comfortable speaking style.
Matching this with the experience I want the audience to get when using the product determines the tone and messaging whether serious, business, or playful.
I make sure that the language and flow of instructions are logical enough to help the user achieve his or her goal of using the product using the content on the product
What role does user research and feedback play in your content creation process at FutureSphere BI Hub, and how do you incorporate user insights into your writing to enhance the overall user experience?
User Research and Feedback influence how I write, the formats I use, and the goal behind my content.
Data tools help in capturing feedback and providing insights
Can you discuss a specific project or campaign you worked on at FutureSphere BI Hub where your background in data analytics proved to be particularly valuable in shaping your approach to UX writing and content creation?
I worked on a project using EXCEL and SQL to analyze a dataset of employees' quarterly sales performance as evaluated by HR and establish relationships between this performance and certain emotional intelligence traits, and engagement levels of the employees to derive insights for presentation to management and further action.
I made use of Excel and SQL for the execution of this project.
How do you collaborate with cross-functional teams, such as designers, product managers, and marketers, to ensure alignment and coherence in messaging and content strategy at FutureSphere BI Hub?
The way I work with other team members is to share knowledge, and ask questions.
In addition to knowledge sharing, results from historical data are explored and given to team members on other teams to build whatever the product will be in line.
In what ways do you stay updated with the latest trends and best practices in UX writing and content creation, and how do you apply this knowledge to your work at FutureSphere BI Hub?
I make time to study and practice resources and join training on the subject on Linkedin, Online, and YouTube.
I also listen to and watch videos, attend webinars from UX Design Institute, UK, and content on YouTube.
I am currently applying the knowledge I have by making it a practice to test and get data from the audience before.
Looking ahead, what are your goals or aspirations within the field of UX writing and content creation, and how do you plan to continue leveraging your background in data analytics to drive success in your career at FutureSphere BI Hub?
My Goal will be to train 100 UX Writers and Content Creators in Nigeria in 2 years
Also, I hope to become a highly sought-after UX Writer on Linkedin in Nigeria in 2 years.
I also hope to land a foreign remote job paying in dollars in 6 months time.
