By Nathanie Ike
Let’s Meet You (Your Name, What You Do, And Where You Currently Work).
My name is Angela Okantey, and I am a passionate and evolving product manager based in Accra, Ghana, and I currently work as an Associate Product Manager at Hubtel, a leading fintech company in Ghana.
How Long Have You Been in the Product Management Space and Why Product Management?
I have been working as a product manager for a few months now, and I have found it to be a truly rewarding and stimulating career path. I am fascinated by the process of turning ideas into tangible products that solve real problems for people. I am also driven by the challenge of balancing user needs, business goals, and technical feasibility.
What Are The Challenges You Face as a Product Manager?
One of the challenges I face as a product manager is prioritizing tasks and making tough decisions. For instance, there are always more ideas than there is time and resources, so I need to carefully evaluate each potential feature or change to ensure that it aligns with our overall product strategy and goals.
Another challenge is managing stakeholder expectations. There are many people involved in the product development process, each with their own interests and priorities. It is important to communicate effectively with all stakeholders to ensure that everyone is on the same page.
What Was Your Highest And Lowest Point Since You Started Your Journey as a Product Manager?
My highest point as a product manager was when I landed a job at a leading tech company just a few months after completing Utiva's product management training program. It was a tremendous validation of my skills and hard work, and it opened up a world of opportunities for me.
My lowest point was when I was struggling with imposter syndrome. I felt like I wouldn’t be able to excel in my role, and I constantly doubted my abilities. It was a difficult period, but I eventually learned to overcome my self-doubt and embrace my talents.
What Do You Aim To Achieve In The Next 12 Months In Relation To What You Currently Do in Tech?
In the next 12 months, I aim to further develop my expertise in product management and become a recognized leader in the field. I am also committed to mentoring and supporting other aspiring product managers who want to transition into tech.

My long-term goals are to;
Establish myself as a thought leader in the product management space. I aspire to become a recognized expert in product management, contributing insightful perspectives, sharing my knowledge with others, and shaping the future of product development.
Lead and contribute to the development of groundbreaking tech solutions. I envision myself at the forefront of innovation, spearheading the creation of transformative tech solutions that address real-world challenges and improve people's lives.
Contribute significantly to the Ghanaian tech industry. I am passionate about fostering the growth of the Ghanaian tech ecosystem, mentoring aspiring product managers, and collaborating with others to elevate the industry's global standing.
Leave a lasting impact on the world through technology. My ultimate goal is to use my skills and expertise to make a positive difference in the world, leveraging technology to solve critical problems, bridge societal divides, and empower individuals to thrive.
